Lifestyle change…Day 1

Before getting into what I ate, I would like to give a shout out to my dear friend Mara over at I Made Dinner. Though it was the crack of dawn in Chicagoland, she supported me through a very rough morning. A morning of turmoil about going back on Weight Watchers and deciding that I have to do what it right for me rather than what may or may not be right for my intuitive eating blog. Mara has been a great friend to me and though we do not always agree on things, I know that I can count on her. So, thanks, Mara.

And while I am at thanking folks, thanks to everyone who commented with kindness yesterday. It means alot to me that everyone understands that I made a choice that was very hard for me and that I think, for now, it was the right one. Blogland rocks…so hard!

OK, we can talk about the food now. Since I didn’t decide until late morning to join WW, my day was not planned well for changing my lifestyle but I trudged through it. For breakfast I had half a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter and an apple. The apple was honey crisp that my sweet friend Sarah brought me during brunch on Sunday, I LOVE honey crisp apples!

I ate half of it before taking the picture :/

For lunch, The Pro picked up Firebird’s for T and I. I had a spinach salad with mushrooms, tomatoes, hard boiled egg, grilled salmon and balsamic vinaigrette. For dessert, I had a few sips of a soy latte that The Pro brought in along with lunch. I didn’t drink the whole thing because I had been sipping my chai tea during the morning and I really didn’t need anymore caffeine.

Just before heading home, I had greek yogurt with thawed frozen cherries to tide me over until dinner.

For dinner, I made whole wheat shells with turkey meat sauce from the freezer. I swear pasta sauce gets better after you freeze it! On the side, I had a little steamed broccoli.

After dinner, I read for a while and then headed to my 7pm vinyasa yoga class. Sonja was the teacher, she is one of my favorites. You know, that whole hate her while your doing it but love her after kind of teachers, well, I think Sonja wrote the book on that 🙂 I’m glad to be back in her classes again and look forward to what it to come for me with yoga.

The 75 minute class wiped me out so I headed straight to bed when I got home. My first day back on WW was a bit challenging but I think it was because I didn’t go into it with a food plan. But, I can already tell, things are looking up.

Oh yeah, and this is my new stove 🙂

Thought Provoker: Do you plan your meals or do you fly by the seat of your pants? I have always been a planner and recently let that slip but I do think I end up eating less when I have a plan.

  1. Despite the challenges, Day 1 sounds great!! You’re doing fantastically, Christie!! Keep it up!! 🙂

I ALWAYS plan my meals in advance, since I’m super busy/on-the-go.

  2. I definitely start my day with a “food plan”. Keeps me on track!

    Love the stove!

  3. Sounds great your first day, it doesn’t seem to me at all as on diet.
I don’t plan my meal because I try to follow my intuition, but lately I am running out of ideas and can’t really hear my intuition what I want, so I might begin to do some planning until my intuition is back.

  4. Hey, we have the same countertops! lol

  5. i really wish that i could be an ‘intuitive eater’ and just eat what i feel like but unfortunately this doesn’t work for me and it leads to binges. So I’ve just resigned myself to planning. I usually plan out a rough guideline of the day but i have been trying to relax a little bit and if something just isn’t appealing to me i’ll let myself eat something else but i usually try to stick with what i planned. it’s not ideal but it’s what i need at this point.

  6. I try to plan my meals ahead of time for two reasons. I eat much better, and it’s cheaper because I’m less likely to fall back on take out. I don’t always plan perfectly, but I’m working on it. 🙂

  7. Love your new oven!! It’s awesome.

I have always been a planner when it comes to meals!

Yeah for a friend like Mara!

  8. The new stove is beautiful!!!!!!!!!

I used to be really big about planning, but now I just don’t have the time. Although I always make sure that I have healthy foods on hand to make my dinner and lunch standbys. A can of low-sodium organic soup can really make lunch in a pinch! 🙂

  9. LOVE the new stove/oven!!!! so spiffy looking 😉

and i always plan my foods cause i’m never at home from 0630 to 1400 during the day. and i hate to buy food at restaurants, etc. cause i know i need to save money. 🙂

  10. I clearly need a plan. I’m not good at intuitive eating, although I would love to do it. It’s just that after a few days/weeks, I intuitively eat cookies. 😦

I’ll keep working on it. But a plan helps me choose well, and helps me stick to a more reasonable budget.

    Your stove is beauuuuty-ful! 🙂

  11. oh my, i realized that i haven’t been planning as much lately thus eating half my kitchen in the process, so i’m trying to make a conscious effort to do more planning! too many ideas from the blogs in my head, a little troublesome!

    horray for the new stove!

  12. When I was home during the summer, I always planned my meals. But more recently in college, it has become a tad more last minute. I just try not to get too hungry and always make sure I have a general idea of what I am in the mood for before I dig in.

  13. I only plan if I see a recipe I want to follow. If that’s the case, I’ll plan it my week. Otherwise, I just make what I want at that moment.

  14. I’m a planner.
I’m so glad you got the support you needed last night! Or should I say this morning?!
    Your stove kicks ass!

  15. I’m so jealous of your stove!

  16. Oh and guess what. I heard the sigh at dinner. Mid chew. I finished chewing. Put down the fork. I was definitely done! Good sign. I was slightly discouraged that I finished my food because it was so damn good, but wow there was definitely a sigh!

  17. I NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER plan my food. I just go with the mood of the day. If I planned I would get bored of my choices that I made three days ago. No way. I try to buy fresh everyday if I can. Always have.

  18. Im sorry, just in case I was too subtle, no I dont plan.

  19. The new stove is lovely!! Oh, and re: yesterday’s post, I would just like to say that I am here for you 100% and whatever you need to do to make yourself feel better inside is your decision and no one else’s. I think you are making the right choice simply because you are taking the initiative – it’s a very scary thing to do and I am inspired!

And I usually fly by the seat of my pants when it comes to meals 🙂

  20. Im a mix of intuitive and planner.

because I work from home I have the LUXURY of planning each day as it goes (running to grocery around 5 for dinner food for that night)….but I do plan or it would be cereal every night.

    oatmeal.

    steel cut.

    **drool**

  21. I always plan dinner, but that’s because I love to cook so I like trying new recipes and need ingredients in the house. Other than that, I just eat what I’m in the mood for. Of course, I TRY to use what’s in the fridge, but it doesn’t always work out that way.

    Love the new stove!

  22. Hi I just found your blog from Around the World in 340 Days and just wanted to comment so you knew I was lurking:) I always plan my meals, that way I snack less, I already have all the ingredients on hand to make dinner (so I can’t get lazy and tired and order take out:), and it saves me money at the grocery store. By the way, your stove is beautiful! I’m jealous!

  23. I *always* plan my meals, even in college before I started focusing on my health. I would scan the cafeteria menu mentally deciding what I would buy on what day.

I think in terms of WeightWatchers (I’m a long-time member) planning ahead is key. “Winging” it usually meant I ran out of points by mid-day.
